Petrol, electric and battery-powered, the new compact 4 Series has it all. In addition to the complete range of power formats available, gardeners can choose from two different cut widths, self-push or powered-drive. What all 4 Series mowers have in common is their practical functionality, high performance design, and the capacity to both collect grass clippings and efficiently mulch mow.
The right model for you
Every garden is different, and every gardener has different wants and needs, so with its choice of five models for lawns up to 1,200m2 the VIKING 4 Series is almost certain to offer the right model for you.
The electric ME 443 and battery-powered MA 443 mowers have a 41cm cutting width and perform powerfully and quietly on small to medium-sized lawns. Compact in size as well as sturdy and lightweight, these manoeuvrable models are genuinely easy to use. The battery-powered MA 443 is perfect when no power socket is in reach, or in gardens with lots of corners and obstacles where a cable might get in the way. The sophisticated and long-lasting Lithium-Ion battery was developed by VIKING's parent company STIHL, and the battery powers any of ten alternate STIHL tools including grass trimmers, hedge trimmers, a leaf blower and chain saws.
Three petrol lawn mowers give gardeners a choice of power classes and cut widths of 41cm and 46cm – making them ideal for lawns up to 1,200m2. They are powered by environmentally friendly Briggs & Stratton engines which are characterised by good fuel economy and low emissions – the latter an impressive 25% below European emission limits.
Optimised design for a clean, reliable cut
Common to each 4 Series mower, specially-shaped high-lift rotary blades produce powerful air currents in use, lifting grass blades straight and upright for a neat and clean cut. Even damp or dense grass is efficiently mown and the cutting height is simply adjusted between 25 and 75mm. The high volume 55 litre grass catcher box features an indicator to show when it is full. Not that it will need emptying that often. Aerodynamic design of the mowers' housing and blades means the powerful air current drives clippings to the full capacity of the box.
Practical comfort so you'll want to mow
Performance, practicality and comfort always go hand-in-hand with VIKING mowers, and the 4 Series are no exception. Cutting height adjustment for example, is via a large handle set on top of the machines – the lever is spring-assisted and sets the height of all four wheels. Controls for the mower are all set in easy reach and the handlebar promotes the feeling of sturdy, comfortable control. Handlebar height adjusts to suit the user's needs and quick-release levers mean they fold simply and neatly for storage.
Among the petrol models the MB 448 TC features an innovative mono-handlebar designed for great working comfort and creates extra clearance for removal of the grass catcher box. Each petrol model enjoys a forward drive gear, and their clever ‘soft starter' means they move off slowly and smoothly. The two 46cm petrol models add a special ‘ReadyStart' feature so just a gentle pull on the starter rope and their powerful engine starts.
Multi-functional: mowing or mulching
Mulch mowing is a great time saver when cutting the lawn, and also recognised as eco-efficient as clippings decompose and return natural nutrients to the lawn. Every 4 Series mower has the capacity to both collect and mulch mow; the accessory mulch kit available includes a special multi-blade which shreds clippings ultra-fine for either grass box collection or return to mulch the lawn.
